SemiAnalysis is a research and consulting firm focused on the economics and infrastructure of artificial intelligence. Its founder, Dylan Patel, explains that the company analyzes everything from AI models and their technical competitiveness to the cost of training and running them, and then further down to the data centers, GPUs, semiconductor fabs, and the geopolitical dynamics shaping those industries. What began as a niche topic has become central to the U.S. economy, with AI build-outs now driving a significant share of recent economic growth. Patel notes that SemiAnalysis has grown organically from just him to a team of 50 people, helped in part by publishing on Substack, and says the scale and attention on AI today is vastly greater than when he first started working in the field.
